Once the Materia Prima has been perfected in a "Hermetically" sealed vessel or Philosophic Egg. This is placed in the Athanor - the alchemist's furnace. In the Egg the 2 principles of Alchemy: Sulphur - solar, hot, male; and Mercury - lunar, cold, female - interact. In fact, as the ancient texts remind us: "they fuck, fart, and die." Out of which rich stew comes the "permanent water" and the changing continues.

Man lifts in his physical Work while he draws down thru his abstractions - his symbols, sigils, signs, emblems and names. He manipulates the metaphysical while crafting the physical. There are 7 stages in many drafts of these metaphysics. Nearly always they are named for the Planets of the ancients: The Moon, Mercury, Venus, The Sun, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn. Hermetic Magic marries Metals to Planets so that a kind of chemistry marshalls the progress from the Lead of Saturn to the Gold of Sol. When the 7 are "accomplished" then the Ogdoatic - the 8th - can be bridged or penetrated - depending on the gender of your metaphor - and the music of the cosmos finally heard . In the Ogdoatic the Temple Bells ring out their gnosis - their certain witness of Monad and its secret name.
