This was their beast for their years on the road. Skippy and Lou called it Le Grand Soleil and they thought of it as a piece of light. Fairings are for faggots and they never destroyed the beast by making it push a wind screen thru the universe. Skippy tricked it out with a chrome rollbar off the back seat and highway pegs off a small rollbar which protected the radiator in front. He got semi-chopper handlebars and that was it. They left the rest of it clean. You can't bring a lot of gear with you, 2up on a bike, but Skippy & Lou had a tent and two sleeping bags & saddlebags which straddled the back seat and carried our clothes. With a full tank of gas we weighed near exactly a half-ton. We left Michigan every year on June 10th and spiraled our way back by mid-September when Skippy could move back into his Motel on the Miracle Mile. Besides their books, nearly everything they owned went with them on the bike for the summer. They would always remember those years as so well contained.
